head-to-head slalom

New to FIBArk! 4 racers at a time will go head-to-head through the Salida Whitewater Park navigating gates, river features and knocking each other out of the way to take the lead.

rules& regulations
  • The race begins with competitors starting in a ‘land start’ format at the upstream put-in on river left. Same put-in as the Hooligan Race.

  • The horn will sound and Racers will run to their boat, get in, and start paddling to the finish line at the Scout Hut Wave. The course will be marked with banners

  • Athletes must arrive at FIBArk Boathouse 45 minutes before race start to check in, attend mandatory safety meeting and pick up competition bib unless bib is picked up the night before.

  • Athletes will be placed in ‘race pods’ or heats of no more than 4 boats. Final number of heats/pods will be determined the day of the race in accordance with total number of athletes registered for the race.

  • Final race rules and format will be available during the Safety Meeting. 

  • Racers will have to navigate through the whitewater park

  • A racer’s finish will be official when their entire slalom kayak crosses the finish line 

  • Competitors may NOT throw their paddle to finish the race 

  • No intentional hitting will be allowed. Unsportsmanlike conduct may result in disqualification 

  • Ramming another team’s kayak is not allowed.

Spectators will love watching this boisterous event as racers battle through the whitewater park to get the first-place spot.  You will see this event at the 2024 Olympics.
