USRA R6 National Rafting Championship Downriver

Downriver through Browns Canyon. Teams will be leaving at 7:30am from either Stone Bridge or Hecla Junction. This will be dependent on water levels and being able to get timing staff into position at the finish. If water levels are too high, the hiking trail to Seidel's gets washed out. There will be a get together for athletes, volunteers, family and friends at the take out following the downriver race. Food and beverages will be provided. We will plan on being back at the FIBArk Awards Platform for the awards announcement at 2pm.

Slalom Races

The accessibility of the river corridor in Salida makes this event very spectator friendly. Slalom places a premium on technical skill as paddlers are timed and penalized for missing, or even touching, a gate as they pass through. An Olympic sport, the FIBArk slalom regularly attracts top-flight competitors paddling alongside “weekend warriors” and aspiring racers. Age groups: Cadet (14 and under), Junior (15-18), U23 (19-23), Open (any age), Senior (31-40), Master (41 and older). Sponsored by RMOC and American Whitewater.

Hooligan Race

Calling this a whitewater paddling event may be generous, but saying it is one of the most fun events of FIBArk would be right on. The Hooligan Race is open to anything that floats that’s not a boat. Hooligans dress up in costume and the winner, in 2nd place, is usually not just the fastest but often one of the few left standing, or, floating. This spectacle of “controlled chaos” is a local tradition that always produces a huge turnout on Saturday evening. Don’t miss it!
