Welcome to the Cleaner Greener Blue Paddle FIBArk

With the support of our generous sponsors, accommodating vendors and dedicated volunteers, the Blue Paddle FIBArk Board of Directors has strived to bring you a cleaner, greener festival. With the help of Zero Hero & Eco-Products, this year all of our food vendors will be using compostable/biodegradable serving wear including corn-based cups, utensils and plates. New Belgium will continue to provide compostable corn-based cups to serve the beer. You will find new recycling centers provided by Angela of Shavano Recycling, Compost Stations provided by Waste-Not-Recycling, organic cotton tee shirts, and Blue Sun Biodiesel to run our generators.

We encourage all participants to take the time to read the signs and please ask questions. During the festival we ask that you take a moment to check out our new waste stations and to please make an effort to keep the festival grounds and the river clean. It will take the efforts of all competitors, participants and volunteers to keep this event and this river community clean & green. We are doing our best to minimize the impact of the festival and it will require changes so please bear with us and let us know what you think. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact Jaime Keating Klco at 719-539-6918 or jaime@gogreenevents.com.

Some things you can do to help:

  • Please make sure all of your waste is put in the appropriate containers.
    • Compost all food (no turkey legs please), paper waste & serving wear.
    • Recycle all cardboard, glass, plastic & aluminum.
    • Please sort all outside waste brought into the festival accordingly.
  • New Belgium has provided corn-based compostable cups for our beer. Please be sure that all cups make it to the compost station.
  • All beer will be served in compostable cups. Please be sure these are put in compost bins, not the trash.
  • Bring reusable items such as to-go coffee cups, water bottles and plastic glasses for beverages.
  • Ride your bike! The benefits are endless! Be sure to check out the New Belgium Wonderbike Booth.
  • Carpool, call your friends, load your bikes and pile in. Salida is great place to never get in your car so save the money and emissions and come on down together.
  • Save Water, Drink Beer.....or let your hotel know that you do not need your sheets & towels washed daily.

Angel of Shavano Recycling

Angel of Shavano Recycling is a Chaffee County based company with the goal to increase recycling efforts throughout the county.  We are a young company looking to help FIBArk in its mission to become greener.  Angel of Shavano Recycling will provide required roll-off containers for recyclables.  We will empty containers as needed at our facility and keep the area around the containers clean. This is a commitment that Angel of Shavano Recycling wishes to continue with FIBArk each year and provide more services as we grow. Mickey and Jerrica Barry have lived and worked on the Arkansas River for over seven years. We created Angel of Shavano Recycling as a way to become more involved with Chaffee County and its community events.

Eco-Products www.ecoproducts.com  www.biodegradablestore.com

Eco-Products is proud to do what it can to support FIBArk 2006.   We believe that "Zero-Waste" events such as this are the wave of the future where all trash is either composted or recycled.   In an age where resources are more and more limited and conventional products take thousands of years to biodegrade, we see that these products are a way to make a real difference.   We at Eco-Products are committed to bringing together the largest selection of biodegradable products at the best prices.   Thanks for your support.

Clif Bar www.Clifbar.org

About Clif Bar & Company Clif Bar & Company is a leading maker of all-natural and organic foods and drinks, including the organic certified CLIF® BAR energy bar, delivering Nutrition for Sustained Energy®, and LUNA®, The Whole Nutrition Bar for Women®. Committed to sustainability, Clif Bar & Company works diligently to reduce its footprint on the planet from the field to the final product. www.clifbar.com. Clif Bar & Company and Environmental Sustainability At Clif Bar & Company we are inspired by the outdoors and committed to finding ways to reduce our company’s ecological impact. We also support a number of environmental organizations and partner with eco-minded events to offset their environmental impact. We use organic ingredients in all of our products because organic farming protects the health of our soil and water, preserves biodiversity and fights global warming. Between 2006 and 2007 we increased our organic ingredient content by 15 percent—purchasing 23 million pounds of organic ingredients in 2007. We continually look for ways to become a “zero waste” company, creating packaging with non-toxic-inks and recycled paperboard, eliminating shrink-wrap and implementing litter-free innovations like the stay-attached tear-top on our CLIF SHOT gel packet. In our office we use only unbleached, 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper and provide desk-side recycling bins, bike racks and bicycles for employees to use during work hours. We divert more than 70 percent of all our trash from landfills, and employees are encouraged to recycle their batteries and old cell phones at work. Mindful of the environmental impact of our business travel and work commutes, we seek out alternative fuel sources whenever possible. We use biodiesel-fueled vehicles for our inter-company shipping, field marketing, mobile marketing tours and to transport some of our company-sponsored professional sports teams. Our Cool Commute program is the nation’s first employee commute incentive program to include cash rewards for employees who purchase clean-burning biodiesel vehicles. Cool Commute also offers incentives to employees who buy hybrids, carpool, ride bikes and walk to work. In partnership with American Forests, Cool Commute also plants trees to offset the carbon dioxide generated by our employees commuting to work. We purchase renewable wind energy or “green credits” to offset the remaining carbon dioxide generated by our manufacturing, distribution, offices and business travel practices. Additionally, our consumers can also invest in renewable wind energy through the purchase of Cool Tags™. Each $2 Cool Tag offsets the emissions generated from 300 miles of travel in the average car. We form partnerships with cycling and surf events, triathlons, ski resorts, musicians and music festivals to reduce their contribution to global warming. Clif Bar & Company purchases enough renewable wind energy to offset carbon-dioxide emissions caused by the event and help ensure the sites are left in pristine condition. We also give financial and volunteer support to a broad mix of environmental organizations, including the Breast Cancer Fund, Children’s Environmental Health Coalition and Co-op America. For more Clif Bar & Company sustainability information please check out www.clifbar.com.

Waste-Not Recycling www.waste-not.com

Waste-Not Recycling is helping FIBArk work towards having a "Zero Waste" event by providing containers to collect cans and bottles and by collecting compostable items that can be fed to worms. Many items that end up being discarded into landfills can actually be vermicomposted and turned into a resource to provide nutrients back to our soil. This program is another way Waste-Not helps to fulfill its mission of "working today for a better tomorrow".

Zero Hero Eventswww.zeroheroevents.com

ZeroHero is proud to work in partnership with Go Green Events at FIBArk to lessen the event’s impact on the environment. Did you know: - All the refrigerated trucks are running on 100% biodiesel or biodiesel blends - All the cups, plates, utensils, and even garbage bags are made from biodegradable products and will be composted - All these products, including food and paper waste will be composted, if disposed of properly at the ZeroHero tents - All the CO2 produced by this production is being 100% offset by supporting Trees, Water & People programs We need your help! Please visit the ZeroHero table to offset you own personal carbon footprint and to support award-winning programs with Trees, Water & People. TWP is a non-profit from Fort Collins that helps local communities in Central America set-up tree nurseries, replant hillsides, and install fuel-efficient stoves for families in need. 100% of your contribution will go to support these programs in Central America, while offsetting your carbon footprint here at home. Please visit www.ZeroHeroEvents.com to learn more about ZeroHero and Trees, Water & People.

Thank you to Eco-Products, Anita Comer Waste Not Recycling, John Long Zero Hero, Mickey & Jerrika Angel of Shavano Recycling, all of the folks at New Belgium for helping to contribute to a Cleaner Greener FIBArk.
